Last night, 1993/02/04 UT, Darren Depoy, Rick Pogge, Ray Bertram and I obtained 2.36 micron images of Io's eclipse and occultation by Jupiter, using the Ohio State infrared camera "OSIRIS" at the 72" Perkins telescope at Lowell Observatory. This the first observation of a Jupiter occultation of Io's hot spots at this wavelength: previous Jupiter occultations have always been observed with ProtoCAM at the IRTF, at 3.5 or 3.8 micron wavelength. The 2.36 micron magnitude of Io's volcanic emission in eclipse indicated no major change in volcanic activity since K observations at the IRTF in January and February. Io was not directly resolved, but photometry of the Jupiter occultation ingress lightcurve will provide about eight resolution elements across Io perpendicular to Jupiter's limb.
