BRIEFING SET TO ANNOUNCE EARLY GALILEO PROBE RESULTS

        Scientists analyzing data returned by NASA's Galileo
atmospheric probe into Jupiter will unveil early scientific
discoveries at a news briefing at 1 p.m. EST on Tuesday,
Dec. 19, at NASA's Ames Research Center, Mountain View, CA.

       The briefing will be carried live on NASA Television
via Spacenet 2 Transponder 5, Channel 9, at 69 degrees West longitude.
The frequency is at 3880.0 megahertz, audio at 6.8 megahertz.

  The briefing will be postponed in the event of a government-wide furlough
that extends into Tuesday.


    Dr. Ed Stone, JPL Director, will be interviewed about Galileo on "Nightline"
on Tuesday, December 19th and on the "Today" show on Wednesday, December 20th.
